What makes Hewlett different
Hewlett sits in the Five Towns, the cluster on the South Shore that adjoins the Queens border — Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Woodmere, Inwood and the Hewletts. It is worth understanding how the boundaries actually work here, because they are unusually tangled. Hewlett itself is an unincorporated hamlet, so permits go to the Town of Hempstead. But immediately adjacent, Hewlett Bay Park, Hewlett Harbor and Hewlett Neck are separate incorporated villages with their own authority. Two houses a few streets apart can file through entirely different departments.
The housing runs larger than in the hamlets further east, particularly on the streets closer to the water. That changes the nature of the work.
