Ductwork Repair & Installation in Jamaica, NY

Ductwork is the delivery system for central air. We install and repair all of it.

Ductwork is a very important component in the central air delivery system, and it is the part almost nobody inspects. We install and repair all ductwork. A perfectly healthy condenser and a correctly sized air handler will still leave you with a hot back bedroom and high bills if the runs carrying the air are leaking into an attic, crushed behind a wall, undersized for the room they serve, or simply were never extended when the house grew.

This is one of the most common findings we make across the older housing here: the equipment is fine, and the duct system is quietly wasting a third of what it produces.

Why choose Burgess Mechanical

  • We inspect before we condemn. Sealing and reconnecting specific problem runs is often all that is needed, and it costs a fraction of a new system.
  • Flat-rate pricing on the actual scope. One upfront number for the work identified.
  • Repair or full installation. From a single disconnected run to complete duct systems for new installs.
  • The honest answer about equipment. If your system is struggling because of ductwork, we will tell you that instead of selling you a larger unit that will not fix it.
  • All work is guaranteed.

Our ductwork process

  1. Free quote by phone. Which rooms underperform, and how the system behaves.
  2. Inspect the runs. Connections, supports, insulation, sizing, crushed or collapsed sections, and returns — which are missing or undersized far more often than supplies.
  3. Explain what is actually wrong. In plain terms, with the rooms it accounts for.
  4. Quote the total upfront.
  5. Carry out the work and verify airflow at the registers that were failing.

What we find in this region's housing

Across the postwar Nassau stock — Valley Stream, Oceanside, Merrick, Baldwin, Lynbrook — the dominant story is a duct system designed for a smaller house. Finished attics, rear additions, converted garages and enclosed porches got built; the ductwork did not follow. The result is a room that has never been comfortable in either season, and a homeowner who has often been told the answer is a bigger system.

Attic and crawlspace runs are the other recurring problem. Flex duct that has sagged, pulled loose at a collar, been compressed by storage or lost its insulation is extremely common, and every one of those faults dumps conditioned air into an unconditioned space. In an attic in July that is expensive.

In Brooklyn and Queens the constraint is space. Where duct exists at all it is threaded through tight chases and dropped ceilings, and modifications have to be planned rather than improvised. In many of those buildings — and in the historic housing around Roslyn — there is genuinely no duct capacity to work with, in which case ductless is the honest recommendation rather than a duct project that will never fit.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know whether my problem is ductwork or equipment?

If the system runs and cools or heats, but certain rooms never reach temperature while others do, it is usually distribution rather than capacity. An inspection of the runs will confirm it, and it is worth doing before buying equipment.

Can leaking ducts really cost that much?

Yes. Runs in attics and crawlspaces that have pulled loose, sagged or lost insulation dump conditioned air into unconditioned space continuously, which shows up directly on the bill.

Do I need all my ductwork replaced?

Usually not. Sealing, reconnecting, resupporting or resizing specific problem runs is often enough. We quote the actual scope rather than defaulting to a full replacement.

My addition has never been comfortable. Can ductwork fix it?

Sometimes it can be extended properly, and sometimes there is no practical route — in which case a ductless head is usually the better and cheaper answer. We will tell you which applies.

Do you install ductwork for new systems?

Yes. We install and repair all ductwork, whether as part of a complete central air installation or as standalone remedial work.
