What installation involves in this region
Duct condition is the single most common surprise. Across the postwar Nassau housing in Valley Stream, Oceanside, Merrick, Lynbrook and Baldwin, a great many homes are running original ductwork that was sized for the house before an attic was finished or a room was added off the back. Putting new equipment on those runs without addressing them means paying for capacity that never reaches the rooms that needed it.
Placement is the other. On tight Lynbrook and Brooklyn lots, clearance around the condenser is a real constraint, and in the denser boroughs outdoor units frequently belong on the roof with line sets routed through occupied floors. In the incorporated villages — Valley Stream, Freeport, Lynbrook, Atlantic Beach, Roslyn — permits are filed with the village building department rather than the Town, and in Roslyn's historic district visible exterior equipment is genuinely constrained. Hewlett, Oceanside, Merrick and Baldwin file with the Town of Hempstead; Manhasset with the Town of North Hempstead; Long Beach has its own city building department; Brooklyn and Queens go through NYC DOB.
Along the water there is a further decision. On the barrier islands and the canal blocks, flood elevation influences where equipment can sensibly sit, and salt exposure argues for coated coils. Freeport adds a wrinkle of its own: the village runs its own municipal electric utility, so service upgrades for a new system are coordinated through Freeport Electric rather than PSEG Long Island.
